Item: Doll, Ventriloquist Doll

History: Early to Mid 1970s

Condition: Good, but his clothes need some sewing (hat and pants) and the string to move his mouth needs to be adjusted.

Means2Me Story: My first memory of seeing this doll was on The Jeffersons. I had seen ventriloquist's dolls, but not a black one, and certainly not one operated by Willie Tyler.

I wanted so much to be as talented.

I wasn't.

But I still had the doll. I no longer have the box, or the record that came with him. I have the memories.

He's been a part of my family for as long as I can remember. Never packed away. Often played with or just sitting on my bedroom shelf. A symbol of what anyone, with drive and determination could do.

His pants and hat do need an "elastic" fix, but he still has his plastic glasses and smile.

I would also strongly suggest having the mouth string fixed if you plan on working with him in a ventriloquist act.
